NICE SHINY NEW PEOPLE ON WRATH

What with Galitza's recent split, we decided that we needed a little bit of new blood amongst the Wrath ranks. After a few months of searching, watching, listening and negotiating, we are proud to announce a further bloating of the Wrath Wroster with several ace bands. There should be a slew of releases over the next few months, as well as gigging action and the like. Watch this space, but for now, here's some info on the hapless new recruits:

PISKIE SITS

Wakefield's PISKIE SITS’ racket is fuelled by a love of US slacker noisenik pioneers of the 80’s/90’s (Pavement, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur JR, Sebadoh, Breeders), their Scottish equivalents (JAMC, Teenage Fanclub, Vaselines) and classic English pop artists such as D. Bowie and Blur. Add swaggering northern bravado and a healthy dose of good-time absurdity and you may come close to understanding Piskie Sits’ outlook.

The band as we know it has been in existence since Xmas 2004. In the space of 6 months, the group frantically spewed out 3 demonstration EPs – like the ascent of man, each one showed a vast step up in sophistication. The final EP, named ‘50’s Greaser Uniform’ caught our attention. Things are all set to kick off in the next few months with Piskie Sits’ debut release on Wrath as part of the ‘Super Sevens’ singles club series (as mentioned above). With a personal invite to support rising pop stars The Research (also from Wakefield) on their entire tour and plans for an album release on Wrath later this year, the latter part of 2005 is certainly looking to be a strangely hectic time for Piskie Sits as flagbearers of the burgeoning Wakefield scene. Prepare yourselves for the return of the slack! No website to speak of yet, but details will follow.

THE PLAYMATES

A plethora of bands formed form the ex-members of the now defunct, yet mighty pseudo-gallic garage punkers LES FLAMES! -  iForward Russia!, Whores Whores Whores, The Ivories to name a few. We have recruited the new venture of Mr Neil (aka Henri Les Flames) and Geoff Pushkin (aka Jean Claude Van Flames), now under the moniker of THE PLAYMATES alongside bassist Ali Valium and Guitarist Benbo Brown. You might have already seen their utterly cheeky and downright filthy live show at the Moor Music Festival or many last-minute big gig supports around Leeds.

If you can imagine Les Flames!, but even more obnoxious, then you will start to understand where The Playmates stand musically. For us, it's utterly marvellous pop music that will definitely leave you feeling soiled, yet satisfied. They will have ther debut single 'Damn Good' coming out as part of the Super Sevens club's final wave of releases at the end of the year, followed by a fully fledged double A-side single at the start of 2006. This should be accompanied by a hideously huge tour fo the UK, so lock up your daughters. No website yet for these tykes, but they do have one of them trendy Myspace thingies for the mean time - here is it: www.myspace.com/theplaymates

SARANDON

Sarandon formed in late 2003 between London and Leicester. Sarandon are a pop band with a short attention span. Head Hocho, Crayola had been in mid-Eighties antiheroes The Colgates. he also ran Thee Foundation for Nothing cassette label and performed in too many bands to recall, including Future Sperm Brasil, Scooter, Pimp, Rocket Jockey & Team Mollusk. He’s appeared on over 100 albums and released 25 solo albums. He now runs the kabukikore label. He had the idea for Sarandon swirling round in his head for some time and finally got round to asking his friends Joe and James if they’d help out. Their first release was a 7 track 7” album entitled “The Miniest Album” (Run Out / Banazan). Released in 2004 it quickly gathered some great reviews from all over the world along with a bunch of radio play. Not bad for a band that had only rehearsed twice and played live once before their recording. Their current record 'The Big Flame' (Banazan) sees the band having rehearsed just once more before going into the studio – laziness or perfection? You decide. They say: Why pop? - Because pop is good. Why short songs? - Because there’s no need to make them any longer. Why that brittle sound? - Because leanness is exciting.

Wrath will be involved in releasing the 3rd in their series of 7-track 7" 'mini albums' later on this year. It's going to be called 'The Feminist Third' and if the first couple are anything to go by, it will be just as ace. There's even rumour of possible gigging action for the elusive 3-piece, including the possibility of some shows alongside legendary Japanese nutcases (and fans of the band), Melt Banana. You can see and hear what they are up to at www.kabukikore.net/sarandon/ and of course www.myspace.com.sarandon
